MALAPPURAM: Thirteen Malayalis evacuated from the war-torn Lebanon arrived at Calicut Airport at Karipur on Tuesday. They reached their homeland in two batches. The first batch of four members arrived at Karipur at 11.30 a.m. on Indian's flight IC-657 from Delhi. They were Mustafa, Zainuddin (both from Kannur), K. C. Ramesan from Payyannur and Ismail from Mattannur. They were labourers at a palace in Labanon. They set off from Lebanon on Saturday night on a ship to Cyprus. They arrived in Delhi on Sunday afternoon. The second batch of nine members landed at Karipur at 3.30 p.m. on an Indian's flight from Chennai. They were Meena from Ariyallur in Malappuram district, Kamaluddin from Mankada, Zaifuddin from Pookiparamba, Pattathil Jayan from Thrissur, and C. P. Sruendran, C. Vijayachandran, Ratnakaran, Geeta and Suresh from Kasaragod. The couple Geeta and Suresh said they saw the horror of war as Israel warplanes dropped bombs in the town they lived. Ms. Meena had been working in Beirut as a nurse for 10 years. The evacuees said they were helped by the Malayali Association in Lebanon. They also said that no Malayali had been killed or injured in the bombings.
