MADURAI: The TNCA-Sumeru Soft inter-district U-17 cricket tournament for the P.R. Thevar Trophy will begin at Thiruvallur (Zone D) and Pudukottai (Zone E) on July 27 and at Pondicherry (Zone A), Theni (Zone B), Coimbatore (Zone C), Dindigul (Zone F) and Madurai (Zone G) on July 28. The participating 30 teams have been divided into seven zones (D and E with 5 teams each and the rest with 4 teams each) for the league phase. In the second stage, the winners and runners-up will play a two-day knockout game on August 7 and 8. The second stage winners (six teams) will play a two-day knockout game (quarterfinals) with one team getting bye on August 20 and 21. The winners of the third stage will play a two-day knockout game (semifinals) on August 28 and 29 and the final will be a three-day affair. The teams: Zone A: Pondicherry, Erode, Dharmapuri, Thiruvarur; Zone B: Theni, Karur, Tiruchi, Thanjavur; Zone C: Coimbatore, Permbalur, Ramanathapuram, Kanyakumari; Zone D: Thiruvallur, Sivagangai, Virudhunagar, Nilgiris, Cuddalore; Zone E: Pudukottai, Kanchipuram, Tirunelveli, Vellore, Krishnagiri; Zone F: Dindigul, Salem, Tuticorin, Nagapattinam; Zone G: Madurai, Villupuram, Namakkal, Thiruvannamalai.
