State to urge Centre to establish NIS in TN

Chennai: The recently presented Tamil Nadu budget mentions only two items under the `sports and youth welfare' column.

First, it will take action to make the State a frontrunner in sports. As indicated in the election manifesto, provisions have been made in this budget for the conduct of annual sports events at Panchayat union, District and State-levels.

Further the present State Government will urge the Central Government to establish a National Institute of Sports in Tamil Nadu.

Secondly, the synthetic athletic track at the Nehru Stadium will be relaid to conduct National and international-level events at a cost of Rs.2.5 crores.
