KOLLAM: Two persons were killed when the mini-lorry in which they were travelling rammed a parked lorry in front of the Public Library here early on Tuesday. The driver of the mini-lorry has been admitted to a private hospital here in a critical condition. The police said the accident occurred at 3.15 a.m. The mini-lorry was coming from Kanyakumari with a load of fish. It was on its way to the Tangassery fishing harbour to purchase the catch from there too and take it to the market at Thamarakulam, near Mavelikara. The police said the driver of the mini-lorry could have dozed off, resulting in the accident. Those killed were identified as Haneefa Rauthar, 60, and Rashid, 34. The driver, Sajeev, is the nephew of Rauthar. The front portion of the mini-lorry was damaged in the impact of the crash. Hearing the sound of the crash, lorry drivers and shopkeepers camping nearby rushed to the scene and informed the police. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their relatives after the post-mortem examination at the district hospital. The Kollam East Police have registered a case.
