HASSAN: Minister for Women and Child Welfare H.K. Kumaraswamy has said that water will be released from the Vatehole reservoir to irrigate 5,500 acres in the command area for 135 days. Participating in the irrigation committee meeting held in the taluk panchayat in Alur on Tuesday, he said with the reservoir filling up owing to good rainfall in the catchment area there would be no problem in releasing water in the command area. Members of the committee said it was difficult to reach water to a distance of 35 km, with the accumulation of silt in the canal near Hotanahallipura village. Former member of the taluk panchayat C.T. Palaksha alleged that people had encroached upon the command area. However, Alur-Sakleshpur MLA H.M. Vishwanath assured encroachments would be cleared.
