  • Plans to hold Telgi trial through this facility
  • Abu Salem too may be tried through same procedure

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Prisons Department will shortly introduce simultaneous multi-party video-conferencing from prisons to courts not only in the State but also across the country.

Under this facility, a prisoner wanted in different courts across the country can be tried simultaneously through multi-party video conferencing. Andhra Pradesh prisons is also planning to try Abdul Karim Telgi, prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam through this facility even if he is lodged in a jail in any other part of the country.

    Only a matter of time

Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services R.P. Singh and Polycom Country Manager Yugal Sharma explained the salient feature of the new facility at a press conference on Tuesday. Mr. Singh said Andhra Pradesh Technology Services will provide the necessary infrastructure and it was only a matter of time before the multi-party conferencing began. "We may even hold the trial of underworld don Abu Salem through the same procedure," he added.

Thanks to successful implementation of the prisons and courts network through the Polycom view-station video-conferencing units, the State Prisons Department will shortly add another feather in its cap.

Mr. Singh said the State Prisons Department had rolled out the sophisticated Polycom video-conferencing solution to its courtrooms and jails in 15 districts within the State.
