PEOPLE'S PROBLEMS: Telugu Desam delegation of Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Erabilli Dayakara Rao, K. Kala Venkata Rao and D. Narendra Kumar discusses rising prices and spread of chikungunya with Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday. — Phot o: P.V. Sivakumar

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has asked the Government to take immediate steps to arrest price rise while seeking a separate fund for stabilising the prices of essential commodities.

A delegation of the Telugu Desam Legislature Party, led by its deputy leader K. Kala Venkat Rao and secretary E. Dayakar Rao, met Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy here on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard.

    Comparative figures

Giving a comparative figure of price rise in the last three years, they said all consumer items should be brought under the purview of the Civil Supplies Corporation. Creation of special fund for market intervention would help in stabilising the prices, they felt.

Speaking to the media later, they said failure of the Government in controlling the prices was glaring and life for common man had become miserable in the last two years. The Chief Minister continued to blame the erstwhile NDA rule and the TDP regime for the price rise which was no solution.

    Health factor

Health sector was another casualty in the State and the epidemic proportion of viral fevers was an indication of this. The poor and the lower middle class were reeling under the impact and even deaths could not be ruled out.

Demanding Rs.3-lakh compensation for families in the event of death and supply of essential commodities free of cost to the affected poor, they said the TDP Government had always acted fast in such cases in coming to the rescue of the people.

The disease was dealing a crippling blow to the fragile finances of the families and the Government should not overlook this aspect.
