Staff Correspondent
Amid the din, Speaker Ishwardas Rohani rushed through the listed business, which included passage of nine separate amendment Bills, including the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill, 2006.
After the leader of the Opposition, Jamuna Devi, said that it had been over two years since she wrote to the Speaker on this issue, several Ministers were on their feet protesting against the manner in which the issue was being raised in the House.
Mr Rohani said that zero hour was not meant to raise issues requiring the Speaker's ruling. He said it was improper to raise the matter in this manner and ordered that all that was being said by members be expunged. Even as the Congress MLAs, including former Ministers Ajay Singh, Satyadev Katare, Sajjan Singh Verma and Arif Aqueel, kept protesting in the well of the House, the Speaker rushed through the listed business and nine amendment Bills were passed by voice vote in less than 20 minutes.
Later, the Opposition leader led a delegation of Congress MLAs to Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding that he should not give his assent to the Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill.
