Chandigarh: Moderate to heavy rain lashed many areas in Punjab as monsoon remained active in the region, providing relief from hot and humid weather conditions. Monsoon rain also lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh but eluded Haryana and Chandigarh. With the seasonal trough passing through Anupgarh, Sikar, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gaya, Asansol and to northeast Bay of Bengal, there could be an increase in rainfall activity in Northwest India. Amritsar was the wettest place in Punjab as heavy rain pounded the holy city, recording 96.0 mm rainfall till 8.30 am. Madhopur, near Pathankot, measured 26 mm, followed by Shahpur Kandi recording 12.0 mm, Ranjit Sagar Dam site 8.0 mm and Ludhiana 5.8 mm.
Rain in Himachal
Several areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Chamba, Bhang-Manali, Solang Nullah and Dhundi also experienced rainfall. Tissa recorded 23.6 mm while Gamroor reported 10.2 mm rain till Tuesday morning. Parts of Jammu and Kashmir also had monsoon showers overnight. The State's winter capital recorded 1.9 mm while Srinagar, reported traces rainfall in the morning. However, rain eluded Chandigarh even as monsoon clouds hovered over the city. UNI
