Health centre inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma inaugurated the Asha Health Centre at Seelampur here on Monday.

Mr. Sharma commended Asha's achievements in improving the health of a large number of slum dwellers and promised to make available more such centres. A community health and development society working for the cause of the urban poor, Asha Health Centre will examine, immunise and give nutritional supplements to pregnant women, while children under five years will be immunised against various diseases and also given vitamin A supplements.

"Exercise vigorously"

NEW DELHI: Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal on Tuesday said people who lead an inactive life till the age of 40 years can reduce their heart disease risks by 55 per cent through vigorous exercise.

Quoting Dr. Dietrich Rothenbacher of the University of Heidelberg in Germany, Dr. Aggarwal said: "People who begin to exercise vigorously after 40 can reduce their risk of heart disease by half compared with their peers who remain sedentary. Risk reduction is the greatest among those who became very active."

Chorus competition

NEW DELHI: Bengal Association, New Delhi, is hosting a two-day "All-India Chorus Competition of Patriotic Songs" at Talkatora Indoor Stadium here beginning this Friday.

The competition will see participation of schools from across the country.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee will preside, while Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit will be the guest of honour.

Rajyoga meditation

NEW DELHI: A public programme on "Basic Needs to Become a Perfect Human Being through Rajyoga" was organised by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya at Munirka here over the weekend.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Rajyogini B.K. Asha, Director of Brahma Kumaris Academy and Retreat Centre, Gurgaon, said even today divine qualities, character and strength could be evolved and developed through regular practice of rajyoga meditation.

Savings Day observed

NEW DELHI: The National Savings Institute (NSI) on Tuesday observed Pay Roll Savings Day at the Indraprastha Head Post Office here.

The Pay Roll Savings Scheme enables employees to authorise their employer to deduct a part of the salary for investment in specified savings schemes in a post office.

This arrangement is available to all employees in the private, public and government sectors.
