NEW DELHI: Elated over the Bharatiya Janata Party's victory in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi by-election from Subhash Nagar, Leader of the Opposition Subhash Arya on Tuesday demanded immediate dissolution of the MCD House followed by fresh elections. Terming the victory of Meera Kanwaria over Seema Luthra of the Congress as a clear-cut referendum against Congress misrule, Mr. Arya said "the Congress has no moral right to continue in power as it has lost the faith of the people of the Capital". "People are angry with the Congress as it has failed on all fronts. It has failed to save houses and business establishments of people from its own bulldozers. People are also lamenting the miserable state of civic amenities across the city and the water-logging of roads during rains has exposed the incompetence of the civic body in cleaning drains," he charged. The Leader of the Opposition said the Congress-ruled civic body had also goofed up in implementation of the new property tax regime that had led to the MCD suffering huge revenue losses. "The present Congress regime has put the civic body in a deep financial crisis. It has also failed in planning out any new project, while ongoing projects including the modern slaughter house and the upcoming dairy colony are mired in controversy." Senior BJP Councillor Vijender Gupta demanded that the Centre dissolve the MCD House and order fresh elections so that the civic body's functioning could be improved.
