ADILABAD: Adilabad Joint Director of Agriculture Sayanna on Tuesday urged farmers not to get panicky because of the continued dry spell in the district. He said the situation would worsen only towards the end of August in most of the areas in the district by which time the Government would activate its contingency plan, which envisages supply of seeds on 33 per cent subsidy. Mr. Sayanna addressed reporters after a tour of the district along with Mr. Ravinder Reddy, Deputy Director of Agriculture from the Commissionerate in Hyderabad who arrived here in the capacity of an observer. Seeds on subsidy
He said only some areas in the eastern part of the district were reeling under drought. In other places farmers needed to start worrying only if the dry spell continued for some more time, he added. He said in the event of failure of monsoon the Government would supply seeds on subsidy. He said under drought jowar, sunflower, redgram, maize and sesamum seeds would be supplied on subsidy. This contingency plan would be activated only in the first week of September, he added. The Joint Director hoped that water would be released from Kadem and SRSP projects, which would help in sowing of paddy.
