Seats for students who passed in second attempt

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Plus-Two students who have failed in the first attempt this year but have managed to pass in the next attempt have some good news: they can still get into a professional college, if they had taken the professional colleges' entrance examination.

Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi told the Assembly that students would get the unfilled seats in professional colleges.

Mr. Ponmudi later said that in the normal course, the students would have to wait for the next academic year. But this year, because the examinations were held soon after the announcement of the results and since the Government managed to garner additional seats from private engineering colleges, this facility was being extended to students. "I think we will have seats for these students also because of the manner in which the entire admission issue was handled," he told The Hindu .

Following this, Anna University issued a release on Tuesday which stated that a supplementary counselling would be held on August 21 at 9 a.m. in the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi; Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai; Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, and Anna University, Chennai for "candidates who have become eligible consequent to the instant examination."

Candidates who had appeared for TNPCEE 2006 but missed the opportunity to file admission application also could also use the opportunity to file along with the supplementary examination candidates.

Eligible candidates could get the application form from the four centres from July 31. The registration fee is Rs. 500 (Rs.250 for SC/ST candidates) and has to be paid as a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Director (Admissions), Anna University, payable at Chennai.
