MANGALORE: Fishermen leaders belonging to various fishing organisations in the Dakshina Kannada had undertaken a study tour of the fishing facilities in South-East Asian countries. According to general secretary of the Coastal Karnataka Fishermen Action Committee, Vasudeva Boloor in South-east Asia particularly in Malaysia the diesel for the fishing vessels was available at a cost of Rs. 26 per litre, with 50 per cent subsidy. Mr. Boloor said there were about 20 fishing ports exclusively meant for landing fish catch in Malaysia each of them fully equipped to handle more traffic. The Malaysian fishing industry imports its boats from Thailand and the engines come from US. In a face to face with the fishermen of Malaysia the group of local fishermen found out that these boats had onboard chilling plants, onboard generators, hydraulic net and hauler systems which ensured easy operation, he said.
