CHENNAI:
It is time to assess the potential of the Indian fashion industry, which has nearly 3,000 fresh graduates every year, Rathi Vinay Jha, director-general, Fashion Design Council of India, said on Monday.
Speaking to The Hindu , Ms. Jha said the concept of fashion was changing with people willing to spend more on designer wear, and MNCs making foray into the Indian market. "We have 2,500 to 3,000 graduates passing out of the National Institute of Design and the National Institute of Fashion Technology ... every year." It was imperative to scientifically analyse the market size, employment potential, the growth pattern and value of crafts skill. "We have approached the National Council of Applied Economic Research for a detailed study by 2006 end."
