Ambattur industrial estate in tie-up with Gedee Weiler

Coimbatore-based firm to set up hi-tech training centre

CHENNAI : The Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association (AIEMA) Technology Centre (ATC) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with Coimbatore-based Gedee Weiler to set up an integrated CNC (machines with computer numerical controls) Training Centre.

Dilip Kumbhat, Chairman, ATC, signing the MoU, said Gedee Weiler was a reputed manufacturer of CNC and conventional lathes, with a technical tie-up with GDW, Germany. Such a training centre was a long-felt need in the present competitive environment. Such training facilities would enable faster growth of industries, particularly of the SSI units in and around Ambattur. Gedee Weiler would provide a CNC lathe with Keller Symplus training software, a turning and milling package worth Rs. 15 lakh. It would also provide course material and technical manpower for the training facility. The ATC would provide eight computers worth Rs. 3.2 lakh and allied infrastructure such as an air-conditioned training centre and library.

In the next phase, ATC plans to set up a Vertical Machining Centre, Horizontal Machining Centre, CNC Milling Machine and CNC Grinding Machine at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.2 crore, he said. K. Pichumani, President of AIEMA, said this year the objective was to provide the Ambattur Industrial Estate with good roads and drainage system. G.D. Rajkumar, Director, Gedee Weiler, stressed the importance of a training and demo centre, as machine tool builders had a role to play in providing to operators who could use machines skilfully.

He said that in addition to the lathe, the ATC would be getting another lathe, a turnmill centre, by the end of this year. Milling and drilling operations could be combined in the lathe itself.

N. Ravichandran, President-Operations, Lucas TVS and G.D Patil, Assistant Manager, Marketing, Kennametal were among those who participated.
