Two classrooms opened in Government school
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI
: Two classrooms were inaugurated at the Government High School at GRK Colony off Perambur on Monday, built with funds from the Sarva Siksha Abhigyan scheme (65 per cent of the total of Rs.2.7 lakh) and the Madras Esplanade Round Table 30 (35 per cent).
The school has nearly 1,000 students and the two classrooms would help in educating an additional 80 students, said a spokesman for Round Table 30.
It plans to make build about 300 classrooms this year.
Madras Esplanade Round Table 30 is one of Round Tables in Chennai, which, under the `Freedom
Through Education' programme, has a mission to educate 1 million children by 2008. MERT 30 reaches out to 1,600 children across two higher secondary schools; and 100 children across support and secondary educational centres.
Those who wish to support the cause, can call 9940033306 (Mr. Viren - Chairman of MERT 30).
