The release also stated that due to the agitation it might not be possible to provide facilities for receipt of returns at a few mofussil stations despite best efforts. "The assesses at those stations are therefore requested to use the facilities for receipt of returns at the Post Offices".

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the due date for furnishing return of income and/or return of fringe benefits for assessment year 2006-07 from July 31 to October 31, in all cases of non-corporate taxpayers, including partners of firms and charitable trusts and institutions.

Office-bearers of Joint Council of Action, Income Tax Employees Federation and Income Tax Gazetted Officers Association, while expressing regrets over inconvenience caused to salaried tax-payers, said the agitation was the result of an insensitive Government towards their problems. Some 45,000 employees and 6,000 promotee officers of the department are on agitation from July 25 onwards in pursuit of salvation for their 22-point charter of demands.
