IAP to hold programmes on child welfare

KOCHI: The Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) Kochi branch will organise three events on child welfare.

Elaborating on the plans, D. Pratap Kini, president of the branch, said here on Tuesday that the World ORS (oral re-hydration solution) Week programmes would conclude on July 31. On July 29, a programme would be held at the Government General Hospital in connection with the week. The theme for 2006 was "Comprehensive management of diarrhoea."

He said pamphlets explaining the importance of ORS and ORT (oral re-hydration therapy) would be distributed to the public. An ORS mixing competition for mothers and children would be held at the general hospital on July 29.

The IAP would organise a World Teenage Day programme on August 1. A public meeting would be held at Al-Ameen Public School, Edappally, in this connection. Counselling sessions would be conducted for adolescent boys and girls.

The World Breastfeeding Week programmes would be held from August 1 to 7.
