Chief Minister to open renovated Collectorate

Inaugural function on August 4

KOCHI: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the renovated District Collectorate building on August 4, said a communication from the district administration here on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister will also distribute 100 title deeds in Thrikkakara North and South villages on the occasion, the press release said.

Minister for Fisheries S. Sarma, Minister for Revenue K.P. Rajendran and Minister for Public Works P.J. Joseph will participate in the function.

Call for vigil

District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish called for a strict vigil on the Ernakulam-Idukki border to prevent flow of ganja and such goods. A statement from the district administration said it sought cooperation from the public in preventing manufacture and sale of locally brewed liquor.

The District Collector instructed the police and excise officials to keep a strict vigil and raid areas where such liquor was being brewed.

During the last eight months, 265 abkari cases had been registered in the district after 4,210 raids.

In these, 179 people had been arrested too.

A total of 484 litres of foreign liquor, 389 litres of arrack, 1,512 litres of spirit, seven litres of toddy and 32.16 grams of ganja had been seized.

Nine vehicles used in ferrying illicit liquor too had been seized, the press release added.
