Bank employees stage dharna

Oppose outsourcing of basic banking services, seek filling up of vacancies

KOCHI: Bank employees staged dharna in front of various banks on Tuesday as per a call given by bank employees' associations.

They were demanding scrapping of policy of outsourcing of basic banking services, filling up of vacancies in banks, withdrawal of Banking Regulation Act Amendment Bill, etc.

Dharnas were held at all district headquarters, according to a statement issued by All India Bank Employees Association, All India Bank Officers' Association and Bank Employees' Federation of India. CITU vice-president E. Balanandan inaugurated the dharna in front of the Central Bank of India at Pharmacy Junction. K.V. Thomas, MLA, Simon Britto, MLA, bank union leaders V.J. Johny, K.S. Krishna, A.V. Pappachan and K.V.George and others spoke.

Rallies planned

The bank employees will hold rallies and explanatory meetings on July 27 and 28.

They will take part in a countrywide bank strike on July 28, according to the statement.
