Fire accident in Golconda Hotel

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD : A stampede-like situation was witnessed at Golconda Hotel in Masab Tank as fire broke out on its third floor on Tuesday night. However, no one was injured.

Sixty-five per cent of the 85 rooms was occupied when fire broke out around 9.15 p.m. on the third floor, said Saifabad Inspector Ram Narsimha Reddy who supervised the fire fighting operations.

Nearly 100 employees of a top pharmaceutical company and film actress Sneha were attending a party on the first floor.

Shocked by the smoke emanating from the third floor, which soon engulfed the entire building, men and women ran for their lives. Interruption in power supply made the situation worse.

"Finally, we managed to evacuate all of them through the service staircase," said Mr. Reddy.

The hotel management said the loss could not be ascertained yet. Three fire tenders were pressed into service.
