Police resort to lathicharge at Moosanagar; police picket posted in the area

HYDERABAD: Twenty persons were injured when two groups clashed at Moosanagar in Chaderghat police station area on Tuesday night.

While police said they were yet to ascertain reasons that led to heavy stone pelting, local sources said trouble started when mischief mongers spat on a group of people taking part in a religious procession at Kamalanagar. The procession was supposed to be taken out on Monday, but was postponed to Tuesday following the death of one of the locals.

Some people who were in the procession beat up a youngster. Friends and relatives of the injured youth then retaliated by attacking the procession with sticks and pelting stones.

Police rushed to the area and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob. Among the 20 injured were some women, too. East Zone DCP B. Balakrishna visited the area and took stock of the situation. A picket has been posted in the locality. Cases were booked against members of both the groups.
