TO PRINCE WITH LOVE: Children of Sabarigiri School in the city on Tuesday jot down their messages on birthday cards for Prince, the child who was rescued from a 60-foot well in Haryana.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When five-year-old Prince was rescued from a 60-foot-deep bore well in a Haryana village on Sunday by the Army an entire nation heaved a sigh of relief. About 60 children of the Sabarigiri School in the city went one step further. This afternoon they gathered to send specially designed birthday cards to the `hero from Haryana.' `Happy Birthday Prince' read the yellow card that sported a picture of Prince in the arms of the jawans who rescued him. The words `We Salute Indian Army' were written on the top portion of the card. Each child wrote his or her name on the card, the class in which he or she was studying and a special message for Prince. `You are the prince,' wrote a student, `Our Army saved our Prince,' wrote another. `We deserve safe places to play and grow up' noted a third student. This sentiment was also shared by writer George Onakkoor who collected all the 60-odd cards and posted them on behalf of the children. Mr. Onakkoor, in his, speech said it was the responsibility of parents to ensure safe playgrounds for children. He also saluted this `peace-time feat' of the men in uniform.
