Chief Justice's assurance to KSBC chief

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Cyriac Joseph on Tuesday reportedly assured the Karnataka State Bar Council Chairman (KSBC) Y.R. Sadashiva Reddy that he would direct the Government to commence work on the circuit Bench in Dharwad if the advocates withdrew their strike. Mr. Cyriac Joseph is reported to have given this assurance during a meeting with Mr. Reddy on the High Court premises. He said once work on the proposed building was completed, the circuit Benches could function normally. He took exception to the strike by the advocates from Dharwad and questioned Mr. Reddy what the KSBC was doing about it.

Mr. Reddy, however, reportedly told the Chief Justice that the advocates of Dharwad were emotional about the issue as they had been fighting for the establishment of a circuit Bench since the1960s. He assured the Chief Justice that steps would be taken to call off the strike.
