A seminar devoted to the flute

Discussions and demonstrations to focus on how the instrument in played


  • About 80 veteran and upcoming flautists to attend the seminar
  • Six veteran flautists to be honoured on the occasion

    Bangalore: This training-cum-seminar event will be devoted to the flute and the way it is played in Carnatic and Hindustani styles.

    Vamshi Academy of Music Trust, Rajajinagar, promoted by the flautist B.K. Anantha Ram, has been promoting such events and encouraging young talent through festivals and release of music albums of young artistes.

    "This event will be held on July 29 and 30 at Adarsha Bhavan, Malleswaram and is devoted to the flute. Close to 80 veteran and upcoming flautists and students of music will attend this seminar, the first of its kind to be held here," said Vidwan Anantha Ram.

    Discussions and demonstrations will focus on the style of playing the instrument, the great masters, learning to play the flute and the place of the flute in other art forms such as dance and sculpture and flute variants in other countries.

    Vamshi Academy will honour the veteran flautists B. Shankar Rao, M.S. Srinivasamurthy, Raghavendra Rao, Sundar Rao, Balakrishna Tantri and Dwaralki Krishnaswamy.

    They will be given the title "Vamshika." This will be followed by a concert on July 29 evening by the father-son duo Anantha Ram and Amith A. Nadig. On July 30 evening, there will be a concert by V. Mukund, A. Chandan Kumar and V. Vamshidar.

    The seminar-cum-training programme, Vamshi Sandesha, will be inaugurated by musicologist Ra. Satyanarayana, veteran vocalist Shyamala G. Bhave and V. Srinivas, Director, Department of Kannada and Culture. K.C. Ramamurthy, Commissioner for Youth Services and Sports, and Director of Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra Mahesh Joshi will be chief guests.
