HAPPY ENDING: Group C and D employees in government run hospitals in Pondicherry thank Health Minister E. Valsaraj on Tuesday following an assurance by the Health department on their demands.

Pondicherry: Employees and workers coming under the Groups C and D in the Government hospitals in the Union Territory, who went on indefinite strike on July 19, called off their agitation on Tuesday following an assurance by the Health Department that the Government would initiate steps to concede their charter of demands. Sources close to the Health Minister said here on Wednesday that the demands relating to hike in wages in keeping with the report of the Fifth Pay Commission were projected. A meeting at the official level was held under the head of the Health Secretary A Anbarasu and the situation was reviewed in full details. The government assured the striking workers that their demands would be considered and necessary follow up action would be taken to concede them. They met the Health Minister E Valsaraj at his residence and thanked him for positive response.

1,500 workers coming under 13 different categories of C and D wings would be benefited by this arrangement, said the general secretary of the Central Federation of the Associations of Government Employees.
