MLA alleges humiliation by district administration

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: Kayamkulam MLA C.K. Sadasivan has alleged humiliation from the district administration in programmes organised in connection with the Champakkulam boat race and Nehru Trophy Boat Race, and has said that he will submit a petition to the Chief Minister, the Speaker of the assembly and protocol officer on the incident.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, he said Alappuzha District Collector K.R. Muraleedharan, who was the chairman of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society, which organised the race, and Kuttanad tahsildar, who organised the Champakkulam boat race, had harassed him.

Mr. Sadasivan said the organising committee of the Champakkulam boat race had removed him from the programme after inviting him to inaugurate a cultural meeting organised in connection with the race. "The Kuttanad tahsildar and 10 other organisers personally invited me for inaugurating the cultural meeting and I accepted their invitation," Mr. Sadasivan said. "But a week before the race, organisers told me that some influential persons were insisting that I not be allowed to inaugurate the programme and they had been forced to remove my name," he added.

Mr. Sadasivan said though he was humiliated he did not raise any complaint, but recently the incident repeated at a function organised by the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society also. He noted that a committee meeting of the society held on July 17, in which several representatives of people and the District Collector participated, had unanimously asked him to inaugurate the construction of pavilion and fixed a date for that. But the next day, an official of the Irrigation Department came to his house and informed him that the ceremony had been postponed, he added.
