COLOMBO: Envoys of the Nordic countries here are working their response to the LTTE demand for withdrawal of European Union (E.U.) monitors from the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) by September 1. Defence spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella told a news conference here on Wednesday that the envoys would hold talks with the Government of Sri Lanka's Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP). The meeting is taking place ahead of the visit of Norwegian Special Envoy Jon Hanssen-Bauer to save the SLMM. The LTTE made it known to Ambassador-at-Large of the Swedish Foreign Ministry Anders Olijelund that there was no change its stance on the E.U. monitors. Mr. Rambukwella said Sri Lanka would not accept any unilateral changes in the SLMM composition . Meanwhile, JVP leader Somawasana Amarasinghe said forces from within and outside Sri Lanka had hatched a conspiracy to divide the nation and his party would not allow their designs to succeed.
