HYDERABAD: As the dust over the killing of a top Maoist and his seven comrades in an encounter in Nallamala forest settles down, the police on Wednesday pulled out its forces that had been camping in the dense forest for the last 10 days. Seventeen special police parties, including six of the Greyhounds, made the retreat from the forest at the end of a special operation executed on specific information. Greyhounds men formed the assault parties while the remaining force was supposed to ambush naxalites if they tried to escape. There were 20 to 25 members in each party. Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen told The Hindu in an interview that the force was withdrawn to provide rest to the men. Mr. Sen said the encounter was the result of pooling of information from various sources.
