Neelotpal among leaders

NEW DELHI: Grandmaster Neelotpal Das (4.5 points) defeated Peru's Cristhian Cruz to be among the six leaders after five rounds of the Sitges International Open chess tournament at Sitges, Spain, on Tuesday.

Prasanna Rao pulled off a creditable draw against ninth seeded Spanish IM Jose Antonio Lacasa Diaz and reached 3.5 points.

GM R.B. Ramesh overpowered Spain's David Vigo Allepuz and joined wife Aarthie Ramaswamy at four points. Aarthie drew with 13th seed Filemon Cruz.

Sai Meera held Germany's Christian Hess to raise her tally to three points while Swati Mohota (3) drew with Ukraine's Tatiana Yastrebova.
