Bangalore: St. Joseph's College, which is an autonomous institution, is starting certificate courses in 23 disciplines from August 19, the first for any college. The career-oriented courses will be for a duration of 120 hours to be conducted on weekends and holidays. According to college principal Ambrose Pinto, the intake will be 30 students for a course. The courses are open to all, irrespective of age, college and qualification. Students of St. Joseph's College who undergo the course will get four credits added to their regular course. The subjects are modern theatre in English; film production; journalism and media studies; dance styles; peace studies; econometrics; legal literacy; Cephas musical talent; essential life skills; fundamentals of bio-informatics; advance diploma in bio-informatics; principles of genetic engineering; gene cloning; analytical methods in chemistry; life insurance; advertising; basics of medical transcription; personal excellence; neuro-linguistic programming; quantitative skills for competitive exams; management in building construction; management of building maintenance; and architecture design.The last date for submitting applications is August 5.
