Lightning kills 10 women in Bihar

New Delhi: At least 10 women were charred to death and five received serious burns in Bihar due to lightning in the last 24 hours as rains lashed many parts of the country.

A report quoting Banka district's Superintendent of Police Syed Haidar Ali Rizvi said seven women were killed at Laxmipur village under the Banka police station while three others sustained injuries in the lightning.

Another report received from Aurangabad said that three women died and two other sustained injuries at Jajapur village under the Goh police station.

Widespread rain lashed many areas in Haryana, with Chandigarh the wettest place in the region. Several areas in Punjab also experienced moderate rain as monsoon remained active in the State. Amritsar recorded 47.0 mm rainfall, followed by Halwara registering 40.0 mm, Patiala 26.8 mm and Ludhiana 6.8 mm rainfall till Wednesday morning

According to Disaster Management sources in Uttaranchal, a heavy flood due to the cloudburst washed away 17 cattle, eight houses and six shops at Gurgu village, 27 km from Rudraprayag District Collectorate. Heavy rains lashed several parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Light to moderate rains lashed almost all mid and lower hills of Himachal Pradesh with monsoon remaining strong in the State, the met office said. The Met office in the region predicted moderate to heavy rain in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours.

In Uttar Pradesh, rain/thundershowers occurred at many places including Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Lucknow and Bareilly divisions, the weatherman said here.

Central Water Commission (CWC) said all prominent rivers including the Ganga, Yamuna, Ken, Gomti, Sharda, Rapti and Gandak were decreasing.

However, the Ghagra was flowing just 10 cm below the red mark. UNI
