Exhibition will be held to mark 75 years of setting up the J&K High Court

Jammu: Founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah's portrait will be displayed in a State Government function. The occasion would be to mark the completion of 75 years of establishing the J&K High Court.

Along with Mohammad Ali Jinnah, portraits of other legal luminaries of the Indian sub-continent who have appeared as lawyers in the High Court will also come up in the exhibition, which would be held in various parts of the State. The celebrations would start on July 29 as it was on this date that the J&K High Court was established during the reign of Dogra monarch, Hari Singh, in 1928. The exhibition would include portraits of Allama Iqbal, who wrote the popular Sare Jehan Se Acha and Pakistan's first Foreign Minister Sir Zaffarullah Khan, who occupied the post from December 25, 1947 to 1954. Also on display would be the portrait of former Defence Minister V.K. Krishna Menon, who represented India in the United Nations. Mr. Menon, who is best remembered in the United Nations for his 8-hour speech elucidating India's Kashmir policy, had also appeared in the J&K High Court as a lawyer.

But it is Jinnah's portrait, which is set to become the focus of attention in the backdrop of India-Pakistan peace process. Jinnah had visited Valley for the first time in 1935 as a lawyer and he had appeared in a court case.
