Threat to U.S. Embassy: Iranian mission denies report

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Reacting to a newspaper report on Tuesday about a terrorist threat to the United States Embassy here, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran said the group mentioned had no connection with Iran.

"It is regrettable that the name of Iran and Iranians has been mentioned in the said report several times without pointing out that the group has no connection with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The group has a history of strong enmity with Iran,'' the Iranian Embassy's press attaché, Saeid Asadi, said in a statement.

"This group is the same old opponent of the Islamic Republic of Iran and which, with the help of certain countries, killed several of the authorities of Iran, including its President and Prime Minister, in terrorist bombings and later got shelter in Iraq and some Western countries."

It added: "This group for many years was involved in espionage of certain countries and supplied a lot of wrong information which created suspicion about the peaceful nuclear programme of Iran at the international level.

After the utility of this group for some countries came to an end, its name was put on the terrorist list, but it is still enjoying life and performing its activities in Iraq under the patronage of the occupying forces."
