MANGALORE: The Airports Authority of India will set up touch-screen information kiosks at the Bajpe (Mangalore) airport with intranet facility, according to M.R. Vasudeva, director, Airports Authority of India, Bajpe airport.
Intranet facility
In an informal chat with presspersons at the airport on Wednesday, he said that the Airports Authority of India had provided intranet facility at the Bajpe airport for administrative purposes. With this facility, the Bajpe airport would be directly connected with the Airports Authority of India headquarters in Delhi. Besides, the Bajpe airport would be connected with other airports in the country that had been provided with intranet facility. This would ensure speedy communication with airports at Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Kochi, he said. Further, the facility would be used in the next stage to provide information to passengers on the arrival and departure of flights in other airports in the country. The kiosks would be set up in the arrival and departure halls at the airport. Further, wireless access points had been provided at the Bajpe airport. This would enable passengers to connect to the Internet through their laptops within 100 metres of the access points, he said.
Residential quarters
Earlier, B. Dayananda, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada, inaugurated the residential quarters and gymnasium for Airports Authority of India employees in the vicinity of the airport. Mr. Vasudeva said that the airport had an total of 122 employees. The airport had 49 different types of quarters for its employees. It had built 14 residential quarters at an estimated cost of Rs. 99.70 lakh.
AAI plan
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has planned to construct 15 more residential quarters for its employees here in the near future.
