Bangalore: Efficiency at work can get you more than a salary raise. You become that much more self-confident and assertive because you know you can give your best to the job at hand and tackle any small problems that may crop up. While a plethora of "confidence coaches" abroad have written volumes about gaining self-confidence by doing things ranging from keeping the body well hydrated to choosing the colour of your necktie, senior executives and human resources managers closer home have more down-to-earth tips to share. Every workplace, whether the more chaotic media organisation or the well structured finance and banking sectors, has its own systems and procedures. In a bank for instance, risk analysis is carried out with well defined parameters of facts and figures. Media houses compete in getting the best first with their ways of access control. Five years into advertising and two agencies later, media accounts executive Smita Deshpande has found that the best way to please a client is by getting to know exactly what they want from exposure in the media through an advertising campaign. "It could be to strengthen existing brand equity, build a new brand or create a fresh image for an established brand that now faces more competition from new comers,'' she says. Once a clear brief has been established she goes on with meeting with the creative heads and others senior to her at the agency and tries to work out a campaign to suit the client's specific needs.
