5 detained for suspected Lashkar links
Staff Reporter
Jammu:
The Army has detained three of its personnel for their suspected links with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Police have arrested two constables on a charge of working as couriers for the outfit. All the five are said to be part of a group.
Official sources told The Hindu that in the first week of July, the counter intelligence wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police got information that the three jawans were working for LeT "divisional commander" Abu Osama, operating from the Gursai forests in Mendhar area of Poonch.
This followed sustained questioning of a group of LeT militants. They revealed that the three personnel used to transport arms and explosives from their hometown Mendhar to Poonch, Rajouri and Jammu.
Talking to The Hindu , J&K Director-General of Police Gopal Sharma said: "Two police personnel have been arrested by us. They were identified as Sikander, posted at Lohai Malhar hills of Kathua district, and Kabir, posted in IRP 9th battalion at Poonch. The Army had not yet handed over the three jawans."
