Unclaimed suitcase makes police tense

Staff Reporter

  • The suitcase belonged to a student from Mauritius
  • It was stolen from his room, which he had vacated
  • As it had a number lock, the thief could not open it and abandoned it near Hebbal

BANGALORE: A suitcase abandoned near the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board's (BWSSB) water storage unit on Hebbal Ring Road sent the police into a tizzy on Wednesday morning.

A passer-by, who noticed the suitcase, alerted the Hebbal police. The police rushed to the spot and found a black suitcase with a tag bearing the name, Dinesh. The police summoned the Bomb Detection Squad and dog squad to the spot.

Even before the Bomb Detection Squad reached the spot, the Hebbal police learnt that a person by name Dinesh, a student from Mauritius, had come to the Sanjaynagar police station to lodge a complaint that his suitcase had been stolen, the police said.

Mr. Dinesh, accompanied by the Sanjaynagar police, came to the spot and he identified that it was his suitcase. He opened the suitcase that had a number lock. It contained some clothes and Mr. Dinesh's passport, the police said.

Mr. Dinesh, a first year BCA student of Brindavan College in Boopasandra, was living in a small room near the college. On Tuesday night, he shifted to a larger room in which some other students from his country were staying.

He had left his suitcase at his old room and had failed to the lock the door properly while he had stayed at his new house. On Wednesday morning when he came to his old room, Mr. Dinesh found that his suitcase was stolen.

The thieves apparently abandoned the suitcase as they could not open the lock, the police said.
