Loakyukta traps PWD assistant engineer
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
The Lokayukta police on Wednesday caught a Public Works Department engineer on the charge of accepting Rs. 20,000 from a contractor for clearing the work done by the latter.
According to the Lokayukta police, R. Rajashekar, the Assistant Executive Engineer of ESI Electrical sub-division, had demanded Rs. 20,000 for clearing the works done by contractor T. Nagaraj.
Mr. Rajashekar had to clear the file related to the electrical work carried out in the Karnataka Government Insurance Department building and a Government Quarters in Kaval Byrasandra. The works were carried out at a cost of Rs. 4 lakh.
As has been his usual practice, Mr. Rajashekar allegedly demanded 5 per cent of the cost of works.
Mr. Nagaraj asked the official to clear the file before he could pay the amount. Mr. Rajashekar refused and kept the file pending for 15 days.
Mr. Nagaraj tried to influence Mr. Rajashekar, but in vain. Mr. Nagaraj then filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police, who trapped the official.
