HYDERABAD: The Congress Legislature Party has ridiculed the `Panchsheel,' an anti-Government campaign proposed by the Telugu Desam saying it was a "manifestation of its frustration" over losing power. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Congress MLA G. Muddukrishnama Naidu, CLP secretary E. Pratap Reddy and others said TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu was politicising everything including the suffering of the people affected by chikungunya. His demand for Rs. 3 lakh compensation was ridiculous as there were no fatalities due to the viral fever. Refuting the charge that the health sector was being neglected, they said the Congress Government had not only increased the budgetary allocation to the sector but also recruited doctors and paramedical staff on a large scale. While the TDP Government refused to give relief to tribals in the past when at least 6,000 of them died due to viral fever, the present Government had distributed 30 kg rice to the tribals affected. The CLP members criticised the TDP's claim that prices of essential commodities had shot up under the present rule. The root cause for the price rise lay in the anti-people policies adopted by the erstwhile NDA Government for which the TDP extended its unconditional support.
