One held for cheating gold merchant
Vinay Mehra, the owner of a jewellery shop at Connaught Place, recently lodged a complaint at the Chittaranjan Park police station alleging that he had been cheated of Rs. 20 lakhs.
Five arrested on charges of flesh trade
Acting on a tip-off about the flesh trade racket, the Vasant Vihar police sent a decoy customer who settled the deal at Rs. 2,000 for one girl this past Monday. He paid an advance of Rs. 500 to the prime suspect, later identified as Rajni Saxena, following which the waiting police team arrested her. Deepak Sharma, her aide, was also arrested along with three call girls. The police also seized two mobile phones. The police said Rajni, a resident of Ghaziabad, had been running the racket for the past two years.
Held for allegedly throwing acid on wife
According to the police, Shalu was asleep with her three-year-old daughter when her husband Sandeep threw acid on her apparently in a bid to kill her. She was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital with 35 per cent burns. She was later shifted to JPN Hospital.
Two arrested for petrol pump robberies
The accused, Sukhwinder Singh and Parvinder Randhawa, were arrested when they were moving in the stolen car that bore a fake Punjab registration number. Investigations revealed that it had been stolen from Hauz Khas in South Delhi. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to their involvement in at least five cases of robberies at Kalkaji, New Friends Colony, Hauz Khas, Sarita Vihar and Hazrat Nizamuddin. The police said the two had also stolen eight vehicles.
Cheating complaint against aide
``My husband Late Chowdhry Brahm Prakash had started one real estate company in 1959 in which I and our family aide were made promoters,'' Satya Chowdhry, wife of the former Chief Minister, told reporters, adding the aide fraudulently transferred the shares to other parties without the family's consent. ``I have filed complaint. But I am not getting any support from the police. I want an inquiry into the matter,'' the 75-year old woman said.
