One held for cheating gold merchant

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old man has been arrested by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police on charges of cheating Mehrasons Jewellers' owner of Rs.20 lakhs in cash on the pretext of selling him 5 kg of gold powder that later turned out to be brass dust. The police have recovered the entire cheated amount from his possession and launched a hunt for his accomplices.

Vinay Mehra, the owner of a jewellery shop at Connaught Place, recently lodged a complaint at the Chittaranjan Park police station alleging that he had been cheated of Rs. 20 lakhs.

Five arrested on charges of flesh trade

NEW DELHI: Five persons, including two alleged pimps, have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police on charges of running a prostitution racket from a rented accommodation here.

Acting on a tip-off about the flesh trade racket, the Vasant Vihar police sent a decoy customer who settled the deal at Rs. 2,000 for one girl this past Monday. He paid an advance of Rs. 500 to the prime suspect, later identified as Rajni Saxena, following which the waiting police team arrested her. Deepak Sharma, her aide, was also arrested along with three call girls. The police also seized two mobile phones.

The police said Rajni, a resident of Ghaziabad, had been running the racket for the past two years.

Held for allegedly throwing acid on wife

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man who allegedly threw acid on his 21-year-old wife while she was asleep at their Mangolpuri residence in North-West Delhi late on Tuesday night has been arrested.

According to the police, Shalu was asleep with her three-year-old daughter when her husband Sandeep threw acid on her apparently in a bid to kill her. She was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital with 35 per cent burns. She was later shifted to JPN Hospital.

Two arrested for petrol pump robberies

NEW DELHI: Two young men allegedly involved in petrol pump robberies have been arrested in Delhi Cantonment. The police claim to have recovered a stolen Toyota Qualis and a country-made pistol from their possession.

The accused, Sukhwinder Singh and Parvinder Randhawa, were arrested when they were moving in the stolen car that bore a fake Punjab registration number. Investigations revealed that it had been stolen from Hauz Khas in South Delhi.

During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to their involvement in at least five cases of robberies at Kalkaji, New Friends Colony, Hauz Khas, Sarita Vihar and Hazrat Nizamuddin. The police said the two had also stolen eight vehicles.

Cheating complaint against aide

NEW DELHI: The family of first Chief Minister of Delhi Brahm Prakash has filed a complaint of cheating against their then aide with Delhi Police.

``My husband Late Chowdhry Brahm Prakash had started one real estate company in 1959 in which I and our family aide were made promoters,'' Satya Chowdhry, wife of the former Chief Minister, told reporters, adding the aide fraudulently transferred the shares to other parties without the family's consent.

``I have filed complaint. But I am not getting any support from the police. I want an inquiry into the matter,'' the 75-year old woman said.
