BELGAUM: A youth with a postgraduate diploma in computer applications resorted to printing fake currency notes using a scan-colour printer. The APMC Police of the city arrested Suresh, son of a retired police constable, and four of his accomplices while they were disposing a fake Rs.100-note at Mujawar Petrol Pump near Nehru Nagar in the city on Wednesday. The four other accused are Sadashiv, Shivanand, Prakash and Yellappa. The police seized the fake notes, all of Rs.100-denominations, worth Rs. 7,500. Superintendent of Police Hemant Nimbalkar said here on Thursday that the 5-member gang had taken up the venture on their own volition and were not part of any organised racket. However, he said investigations would reveal the exact quantity of fake notes the gang circulated in the city. He said Suresh used to print fake notes late at night and early morning and circulated it through one of his friends Basavaraj. The accused were giving Rs. 1,000 as commission to Basavaraj for circulating the fake notes worth Rs.10,000, he added. Mr. Nimbalkar appealed the people to be careful while accepting money and check the authenticity of notes and inform the police if they came across a fake currency note.
