Somnath's poser stumps members

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee forced male members of the House on to the back foot on Thursday when he sought to know from them why their concern about the poor representation of women in various sectors did not extend to Parliament.

The Speaker's poser came when M. Jagannath (Telugu Desam Party) wanted an explanation from the Defence Minister on the negligible presence of women in the armed forces.

Interrupting him, Mr. Chatterjee quipped: "What about the membership of this House? Are you considering that?"
