Nepal pact envisages permanent peace

KATHMANDU: The Peace Committee of Nepal on Wednesday prepared a draft of the Agreement on Ceasefire and Human Rights and Abidance of Humanitarian Laws, state-run Radio Nepal reported here on Thursday.

``The peace agreement is a component of the Ceasefire and Human Rights Agreement to be signed between the government and the guerillas of Nepal,'' the radio quoted Ram Chandra Paudel, committee convener as saying.

The committee also prepared a draft of the Peace Council to be formed at the local level, Mr. Paudel said.

The agreement mentions that both sides will be committed to the universal declaration of human rights, implementation of international humanitarian laws and basic principles and norms of human rights, and the understanding reached between the Government and the guerillas, he said.
