CHENNAI: People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Nasir Maudany, lodged in jail for the past eight years as a key accused in the 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts, has sought bail from the Madras High Court, on health grounds. Maudany, who is on ayurvedic treatment in the Coimbatore Central Jail, submitted that his health had been damaged ``very badly'' due to the long incarceration and said he had been advised to a get ``a special treatment, which is possible only in ayurvedic hospitals.'' He contended that the treatment being given now ``is not sufficient to restore his health condition.'' The PDP leader also said he had to be admitted to an artificial limb centre for replaement of his artificial limb. Attempts by the jail doctor to treat his artificial limb problem failed because the expertise was available only in the artificial limb centre, he claimed. He said he had been cautioned that the limb, if not changed immediately, would pose a serious problem to his life. He was an acute diabetic besides suffering from high blood pressure and spinal chord problems. His release on bail would not prejudice the prosecution case in any manner, he said adding there was nil scope for him to tamper with the evidence and flee justice. - PTI
