NEW DELHI: The logo and mascot of the 2007 ICC World Cup was unveiled here on Thursday. The International Cricket Council CEO Malcolm Speed paid glowing tribute to West Indies' contribution to world cricket. "The world owes West Indies a huge debt for its flair for exciting cricket and a vibrant game. It gave us some great memories, some great players and contributed immensely in popularising one-day cricket. It has a right to hold the World Cup," Mr. Speed said.
Invitation to fans
The ICC World Cup West Indies 2007 managing director and CEO Chris Dehring extended an invitation to all fans to visit the Caribbean Islands to watch an event to be staged in nine different countries. In a speech that brought alive the Caribbean spirit, Mr. Dehring said, "we (the West Indians) gave the world one-day cricket. We played Test cricket and we played Test cricket like one-day cricket." Mr. Dehring took the audience on a trip of the Caribbean with focus on the venues and the culture of the islands staging the competition. "You will not be disappointed with the hospitality," he stressed. The Grenada Prime Minister Keith Mitchell highlighted the efforts being made to make the World Cup a memorable event. He assured all cricket fans of a pleasant stay with an assurance that steps were being taken to provide reasonably priced accommodation during the World Cup. The tournament schedule and the mascot were also released at the occasion. Special Correspondent
