CHITTOOR: In view of poor rainfall in the district, district Collector S.S. Rawat has urged bankers to sanction loans liberally to farmers for taking up alternative crops. Addressing a special meeting of bankers here on Thursday, he said that an amount of Rs. 155 crores had been fixed as target for issuing loans to farmers during the karif season. In the current year, an amount of Rs. 194.69 crores had been disbursed as crop loans against the target of Rs. 586.373 crores, which was the highest when compared to the last two years.
Loan melas
The Collector asked the bankers to organise special loan melas before August 15 to achieve the target. He urged them to extend a financial assistance of Rs. 30 crores to village organisations. Further, the rythu mithra groups were to be identified and loans sanctioned to them under Indira Prabha scheme. Joint Collector Rajendra Prasad wanted the bankers to sanction Rs. 18-crore loans to ex-servicemen. Lead Bank Manager Suribabu, NABARD Assistant General Manager Jayaram Sharma and others were present.
