Sangareddy: With the exception of Prashanthinagar (ward no. 8) of Siddipet which has 6,000 voters and 23 candidates in fray, results of the first phase of panchayat elections will be known by 4 p.m. on Saturday. In Medak district, 3,077 candidates remained in the contest for 1,050 sarpanch posts and only 59 were elected unanimously. Similarly, 22,235 candidates would be contesting for 10,210 ward member posts while 1,089 ward members were elected unanimous. Speaking to newsmen here on Thursday, district Collector B. Venkatesam said that ink mark would be made on the middle finger this time. He advised voters to reach the polling booths early in the day as elections close by 1 p.m. and counting of votes would be taken up immediately. Voters are required to remember the symbols of candidates as their names are not published on the ballot papers. 1,021 new voters Total number of voters this time has increased with the addition of 1,021 new voters, taking the total number of voters to 15,51,757. People have been told to bring some form of photo identification to cast their votes. The Collector declared holiday for Siddipet division on Saturday, August 2 in Medak division and August 6 in Sangareddy. All those working in different industries falling in the respective panchayats could avail themselves of holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
