Maoists kidnap 19 tribal girls, women

Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM: Maoists once again struck terror in the south Bastar district of Dantewada in Chhattisgarh, kidnapping 19 girls and women from Togugudem village, some 20 km from Erraboru, on Thursday. All the women belonged to the Salva Judum (anti-Maoist movement) relief camp at Dornapal.

Six men were fishing in an irrigation tank along with the women when the naxalites surrounded them. They were forced to accompany the dalam into the forests. The naxalites forced the men to go back and detained the women.

The women, including some minor girls, screamed for help as they were dragged away at gunpoint. The Salva Judum activists had been cautioned against straying from the relief camp after the Erraboru incident. About 32,000 people were accommodated in the Dornapal camp. A majority of them were identified with the Salva Judum, and hence became the naxalites' target.
